Touring company May Can Theatre is looking for local actors/performers/improvisers (or people who are naturally very very happy) to participate in a their upcoming Winnipeg Fringe production of Happiness™.
The role of HPL recruit involves audience participation, demonstrating products, improv, and mostly you just get to be very very happy, like the happiest version of you.

We have 10 performance scheduled between July 15th and 26th at the Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre. Ideally, are hoping to find 2 people who are available to the entire run or two teams of 2 people to split the run between them. Here is the list of the performance dates/times, we’d ask you to be available an hour before performance. Your participation would include the pre-show and the first five minutes of the performance - after that you’d be free to stick around to see the show or head out.

July 16 @ 8:15pm
July 17 @ 11:45pm

It's been a year. We did it! - one thing a month for 12 months. It's been amazing and chaotic and exciting and we are so humbled by your willingness and support throughout. You are a brave bunch!
Here's the list!
A special THANK YOU to the folks at Arts Court/The Ottawa Finge Festival. You people are the best around. And everyone else who lent us a helping hand, submited stories, roasted us, tended bar, sourced random items, lent us space, and all the other things - THANK YOU!
Maybe you're a good writer. We sure as heck wish for your own sake you’re a good masturbator. Maybe you're both. Either way, we need YOU!
Because it was such a raucous goodtime the first time around, the undercurrents Festival has invited May Can Theatre to curate a second series of anonymously crowd-sourced first-hand accounts of jerking, diddling, flicking, rubbing, grabbing, pulling, twisting, jacking, jilling, petting, slapping, smacking, whacking, tickling your privates in private (or in some cases, public). It will be a celebration of self-love in all its glory, complexity, hilarity, diversity, discovery and stickiness.
To that end, we are looking for stories. Women, men, the experienced, and the soon to be more so, plus everyone else in between - we want to read any tale about rubbing one out you think is worth telling. The first time you did it. The time you were caught doing it. The time you surprised yourself in doing it. There are as many stories as there are people who self-love. And really, we all do it…
Everyone and anyone are welcome to submit stories up until Feb 6. To do so anonymously, use the following login credentials to email us.
Stories should clock in anywhere between 3 - 7 minutes in length. And please make sure to title your masturbatory tale. Apart from that, it’s late and you’re alone with your notebook/computing device…frisky adventurous feelings… you get the gist: it’s carte blanche!
Standout stories will be read allowed - in public - by guest readers during undercurrents, Feb 12 - 21 @ Arts Court (2 Daly Ave). For more information on the event and all the other amazing programming included in the festival visit: undercurrentsfestival.ca
We wait in anticipation of reading your solo-sexy-time stories. Thank you in advance for entrusting us with them! That's it for now. More about upcoming stuff to come
Love, May Can Theatre

At nearly a 1/3 of the way through the year, here is a revised list of what's happened/to come. There have been a few changes and we are sure there are more to come. A year is a long time. We think it’s important to be flexible.
May Can Theatre 2014 Launch. There was a party, a power point presentation and 2 one-person shows (The Room Outside the Room, written/directed by Cory Thibert and performed by Tony Adams & Forsaken Daughters of Winter, written by: Kara Crabb and performed by Norah Payton).
Performed our latest new creation, What About Horses?, along with new works by Dead Unicorn Ink and GRIMprov as part of Trois (3 nights, 3 shows, 3 drinks for $10, so much threetre!).
This last month, we curated JERK IT!, an evening of masturbation stories submitted anonymously and read by someone else. There was also a chat roulette booth and lotion/Kleenexes to spare! No, but seriously, the evening was a blast, with talented people reading a collection riveting stories. Some were funny, some sexy, some touching, some cringe worthy.
Flip It!: A live game show storytelling challenge with drinks, which celebrates the competitor in all of us! Last summer we drove to Saint John New Brunswick where we fell madly into friendship with a group of Montrealers who invented the game. Joined by Flip It! all-star Al Lafrance, May Can’s Tony, Cory and Mado will duke it out in a series of challenges sure to embarrass us slightly and entertain you greatly; some we’ve created, some you will create for us.
Saturday April 19th - Doors 7:30pm/Game 8pm - Arts Court Studio (2 Daly Ave., Ottawa) - PAY WHAT YOU CAN
Join us on May 31st for A-May-Pole-Dance-Celebration-Slash-Help-Us-Move-Maybe?-Slash-Wolves>Boys-Send Off-Slash-Bacon-With-May-Can-Party. Not our catchiest title, but it gets straight to the point. We will be moving out of our beloved Powerhouse and then hitting the road for the summer. So we want to get people together for some May Pole action, have some bay can with May Can, and do Wolves > Boys in Ottawa for the last time. Ever. Think about it. (Time and Location TBA)
Fringe Tour. We are doing our darndest to get across Canada this summer to do one last out-with-a-bang stint of Wolves>Boys. We plan to hit Montreal (June), Winnipeg (July) and Edmonton (August). We are Incredible excited to bring this show across the country, and if you can make it trek from Ottawa to any of the above cities, we will let you in free! What a deal Batman!
May Can's 5th Birthday Bonanza. May Can will be 5 whole years old this September! Join us in late September for a party like no other. Cheap drinks, good music, great times. Maybe even a blast from the past special where we get people to perform snippets from our past productions in chronological order. (Date and Location TBA)
Fresh Meat Theatre Festival. We always love Fresh Meat, one of our favorite parts of fall really. And this year, Tony will also be helping produce the event. How cool is that! (Dates and Location TBA)
We do a "play" play. Oh yeah, that's right. We will be putting on a play. By someone else. We are going to purchase the rights, make some posters, cast it, get costumes, a set, some lighting, maybe a sound space (we hope). It's a bit different from what we usually do, but why not, you know? If anyone has some great plays for us to read, start telling us now! (Dates and Location TBA)
LASER/TOTEM/PENGUIN- A May Can Christmas. This is maybe the one we are most excited about. Mostly cause we have no idea what it even is yet. We (Tony, Cory, Mado) picked three words, and now they our points of interest. Should be jolly and festive and... well anything really. We have no idea yet. (Dates and Location TBA)

Hello fine folk,
Welcome to month 3 out of 12 (aka 1/4)!
Just this past weekend we opened and closed our latest new creation, What About Horses?, along with new works by Dead Unicorn Ink and GRIMprov as part of Trois (3 nights, 3 shows, 3 drinks for $10, so much threetre!). We hade a threerific time! No. But seriously, we are always elated to team up with other local emerging theatre companies. A big thanks to Dead Unicorn Ink for having us!
Incase you were unable to make it out and are curious, here are some pictures. (Most notably a photograph of a certain Anthony Adams making one of his performance dreams reality. It was a thing.)
Jerk It - your genitals, not chicken. May Can does Masturbation Stories.
May Can would like to invite you to its most self-indulgent night of theatre ever. A night of Masturbation Stories. Yes, capitalized M on Masturbation. Because on this night, we celebrate self love and the plethora of stories we can gather about it.
We have compiled a collection stories all based around jerking, diddling, flicking, rubbing, grabbing, pulling, twisting, groping, jacking, jilling pettingslappingsmackingwhackingtickling your privates in private. Or public in some cases. We have some stories that are hilarious, some surprisingly touching (in the emotional sense) and some inspiring. A couple racy ones too, but that might be me making more of it than it is.
There will be drinks, music, activities and lots of room for discussion.
Thursday March 13th - Doors @ 7pm / Stories @ 7:30pm - The Arts Court Library (2 Daly Avenue, Ottawa)
PRICE: By donation!!! (Suggested $7. But don't let that stop you from giving more. Or less, depending on your working situation and such.)
Stay tuned for more updates. We look forward to having you with us very soon!

We launched! Last Friday we got people together for two solo shows, Cory Thibert's "The Room Outside The Room" performed by one and handsome and always charming Tony Adams. And Norah Paton's "The Forsaken Daughters of Winter." Both went very well, although some would argue that the baby Josiah may have stolen the show. How do you compete with a friggen baby?
You don't, you will lose.
Regardless of who was the best part, what is most important is that we have our plans laid out for the year! Here they are, in order, in almost 100% confirmation.
May Can Theatre Launch (happened)
Masturbation Stories! (Feb21st or 22nd TBD) A night of masturbatory theatre in its least pretentious way. We are in the process of collecting stories anoynmously to be read by guest performers. In the month of love, it is important to remember self love. We may even have a chat roullette booth set up as well! If you would like to sumbit a story all you have to do is email it from our special email: [email protected] (password:everybody) and send it to [email protected] with an obvious subject line.
Trois (Feb 30th-Mar1st) We have teamed up with some local power bunches to put on a little mini showcase festival that will be larger than life and theatre itself! Well maybe, size isn't important. What is important is that we are writing a new show for this and it is looking to be our grittiest show yet. Possible nudity. Possible drugs. Possible laughs. We hope so, if not by us I'm sure either Dead Unicorn Inc. or Grimprov will be able to help you out in the entertainment department no problem.
Little Green Hat & May Can Team Up (late March, Dates TBD) Tony Adams and Tess McManus will be pairing up to write a new intimate play to be staged in an apartment no less. A show dealing with themes of gender norms, identity, sex. All pretty right now and relevant things you know? And, we will probably be serving breakfast to our audiences following the show. Who doesn't love breakfast? If you know some one who does, keep them away from us.
Flip It! (Early April, dates TBD) We play a live game show/card game/story telling thing with some super cool people from Montreal! We met them this summer when we did the Fundy Fringe and had a great time watching their show. Come and yell at the competitors, place illigel bets, drink some drinks, and have a rambunctious good time.
A-May-Pole-Dance-Celebration-Slash-Help-Us-Move-Maybe?-Slash-Wolves>Boys-Sendoff-Bacon-With-May-Can (May 31st) Not our catchiest title, but it gets straight ot the point. We will be moving out of our beloved Powerhouse and then right after hitting the road for the summer. So we want to get people together for some May Pole action, have some bay can with May Can, and do Wolves>Boys in Ottawa for the last time. Ever. Think about it.
Ps. If you would like to help us move our stuff, that'd be great!
June, July, August:
Fringe Tour. We are doing our darndest to get across Canada this summer and do one last stint of Wolves>Boys. We are planning to hit Montreal(June), Winnipeg(July) and Edmonton(August). We are super excited to rbing this show across the country, and if you can make it out to them from Ottawa, we will let you in free! What a deal Batman!
May Can's 5th Birthday Bonanza. (late September) May Can will be 5 whole years old this September! Join us for a party like no other. CHeap drinks, good music, great times. Maybe even a blast from the past section where we will get people to perform snippets from our past productions in chronological order.
Fresh Meat Theatre Festival: (dates TBD) We always love Fresh Meat, one of our favorite parts of fall. And this year Tony will also be helping produce the event. How cool is that!
We do a "play" play. (dates TBD) Oh yeah, that's right. We will be putting on a play. By some one else. We are going to buy some rights, make some posters, cast it, get costumes, set, lighting, sound. Maybe, we hope. It's a bit different from what we usually do, but why not, you know? If anyone has some great plays for us to read, start telling us now!
LASER/TOTEM/PENGUIN- A May Can Christmas. (date TBD) This is maybe the one we are most excited about. Mostly cause we have no idea what it even is yet. We (Tony, Cory, Mado) picked three words, and now they our points of interest. Should be jolly and festive and... well anything really. We have no idea yet.
That's the list so far! There may be more. Some may be different. But you can be sure every month we will have a reason for us to get together and watch, or perform, or just be. Join us on our journey, just being there is help enough, and let's have a great 2014.
May Can Theatre.

May Can theatres little viewed blog is coming back with a new post!
Big News! ....But first, what we have done since our last post.
New Brunswick Fringe was awesome, we met a lot of great people there and will be reuniting with a lot of them soon enough.
Katya's production of Princess Ivona has been nominated for best student production!!!
We performed in the second year of the fresh meat theatre festival, with a new creation Motion Passed, directed by Tanya Levy.
Both Tony and Cory were part of the ill fated Chamber Theatre Hintonberg production of Death of a Salesman.
Since then we have been planning and meeting together to come up with a new idea:
MAY CAN THEATRE WILL PRODUCE A NEW EVENT FOR EVERY MONTH OF THE YEAR!
That's right you heard it here first, the May Can crew will produce a new event for every month of the year 2014.
Now we don't like to spread secrets before things are confirmed but we have a few ideas we can throw out there for you!
In January May Can Theatre is planning on revisiting the one man show The Room outside the Room, directed and written by Cory Thibert and starring Tony Adams. Also, and we are in talks with Nora Paton coming back to Ottawa with her Fresh Meat show Forsaken Daughters of Winter.
We are creating a new show about Grief and Magic; it might be the grittiest play May Can Theatre has ever done.
We are also touring Wolves> Boys across Canada along the fringe circuit, so far we are officially in the Montreal Fringe Festival.
May Can will NOT be participating in the Ottawa Fringe Festival for the first time in the past 3 years. It was a tough decision but we are focusing on the Wolves show and making sure its perfect before we showcase it along the West coast.
We will update soon enough with a calander for all the events being produced this coming year.
Expect Bacon, very personal stories, and new collaborations!
-Love, May Can

Dear faithful readers,
We apologize for not keeping you up to date about all our happenings, we know this has been very stressful for you.
May Can's Tony Adams and Cory Thibert perfomed in PRINCESS IVONA earlier this month, also featuring Leslie Cserepy and Stage Managed by our own Emily Carvell. It was a lot of fun to work on, there was a lot of good feedback about the show, we figured out that we look way better with make-up than without... Thanks to everyone who came out to see it.
Prix Rideau Awards nominations were announced recently.
Wolves > boys was nominated for Outstanding New Creation
Tony Adams and Cory Thibert were both nominated for the Emerging Artist award, as seperate people, which is a huge step for us... too bad its in the same category which doesnt help define us as individuals.
Our very own Mado was nominated for Outstanding female performance
Our friends were also nominated, Jodi Sprung-Boyd was nominated for Outstanding Direction for The Open Couple, and Mi Casa's Live from the Belly of a Whale was also nominated for Outstanding New Creation.
All very exciting stuff, the Rideau Awards also did their first Nominee Themed Photo shoot, the theme was "Jump into bed" Here's a little taste.
Photo by Andrew Alexander, for the Prix Rideau Awards.

Well the stars must be aligning for us cause we just booked a show for next week! This is our favourite type of show, one with extremely short notice. We believe if you’re a real performer you can always come to the call of duty when needed. And guess what? Duty called, we answered;now we have 6 days to get a show together.
Scary? Kinda but like not really. We are doing a show that we had done before, “The Room Outside The Room” a little gem that not a lot of people got to see. Cory wrote it, Tony performed it a year ago at our second birthday shindig bash. So hopefully the cobwebs aren’t toothick and the play will come back easily. We are super excited to get to revisit this piece again, and see good ol’ Thomas Tills, the title character of the play. We had intended to go back and fix it and this night is the perfect kick in the pants for it. Plus we get to work with Red Collective, another company from Ottawa full of youngsters just like us.
So come join us on December 18that Club Saw for some drinks and shows. There’s also two other shows going up. We should shout those out too. Check out the Facebook event here. http://www.facebook.com/events/121220544706178/
Hope to see you guys out!
Also, here’s a review from the superawesome Visitorium (the great Kevin Reid, check out all the titles he gets)from when we did the show a year ago. http://thevisitorium.com/2011/10/05/may-can-do/
